Team Training in Nature: Collaboration between Wanderlust and Psience
Wanderlust’s mission is to help teams alleviate work stress, strengthen internal cohesion, and develop collaboration skills by actively spending time in nature. Shared activities are enjoyable, but to ensure that team days bring long-term benefits rather than just pleasant gatherings, we have integrated them with science-based team training. For five years, we have partnered with Psience to organize team days that combine active outdoor activities with professional training, creating impactful and memorable experiences.
WHAT ARE TEAM DAYS IN NATURE?
Every team is different, and therefore, team days are tailored to the needs of participants. A typical day consists of two parts:
Active outdoor adventure – Experienced Wanderlust guides organize various hikes and adventure activities, such as trekking, bogshoe hikes, survival training, or outdoor mobile games. These help participants break out of their daily routine, refresh their minds, move their bodies, and interact in a relaxed atmosphere. Working together in these situations allows teams to get to know each other better and understand their dynamics.
Science-based training – Psience’s professional trainers conduct training sessions tailored to the team’s needs. Topics may include fundamentals of teamwork, leadership skill development, or effective feedback techniques.
WHERE CAN TEAM DAYS BE ORGANIZED?
Our training sessions take place in various locations across Estonia, offering inspiring environments for team development. A popular location is the Tallinn Botanic Garden, which provides an excellent setting for team events. Many teams also prefer Central Estonia to allow participants from different regions to gather conveniently. Events can also be held in Tallinn’s green areas or Old Town. The key is to ensure movement in fresh air to make the most of the day. If you want to escape the city, we recommend organizing a team day at Aegviidu Tervisedepoo, which can be reached by train – an environmentally friendly and convenient solution.

HOW DOES THIS COMBINATION WORK?
When team training is combined with active outdoor activities, learning becomes more practical and memorable. Depending on whether the training takes place in the morning or afternoon, participants experience different benefits. If the training is in the morning, newly acquired knowledge can be immediately applied in a team-based orienteering game in nature. If the active session precedes the training, it serves as an excellent warm-up. According to Psience trainer Anne-Mari, an activity before the training helps participants open up better, and movement in nature enhances positivity and engagement. Since learning is more effective when associated with positive emotions, this creates the perfect foundation for acquiring new knowledge.

WHAT IS THE FUTURE OF TEAM DAYS?
Maximizing shared time
We see a trend where team events are becoming more diverse – multiple activities are combined within a single day to make the most of the time spent together. We believe that combining active experiences with training will remain popular, as it encourages greater participation compared to traditional long training sessions.
Shared time brings new energy
Teams increasingly value the opportunity to meet face-to-face, share new experiences, and gain fresh knowledge. While meeting colleagues daily used to be common, today, in the era of remote work, a team day is a special occasion.
The key to success: Regular team events
Many teams set a goal at the end of their training to plan the next meeting to maintain a strong team spirit. Remote work is here to stay, but people still need real-life meetings and shared experiences to keep the team connection alive. Why not make these moments refreshing for both the mind and body?
