Sustainability at Wanderlust
Wanderlust.ee operates mainly in Lahemaa National Park, which was established to preserve and promote the natural and cultural heritage of Northern Estonia. We take pride in contributing to the preservation and presentation of the region’s nature values and historical sites.
Promoting Nature and Culture
As nature guides, we carefully prepare each hike, familiarize ourselves with the area’s nature and culture, and share this knowledge with our guests in a way that sparks curiosity and joy. Our goal is to create experiences where hikers can relax, enjoy being in nature, and let their minds wander freely. At the same time, we emphasize environmental education—by raising awareness about conservation and responsible hiking, we help ensure that these landscapes remain for future generations to explore as well.
Leading by Example
Sustainable nature tourism starts with us. That’s why we always serve meals from reusable serving dishes on our hikes, take all waste with us and sort it properly, follow the principles of best practice in bog-shoe tourism, and support local communities whenever possible. Even before the hike begins, we encourage participants to make conscious choices by advising on suitable transportation and gear. We believe that through our example, we can inspire everyone who joins us—so that Estonia’s nature remains well-preserved, and the joy of being in the wild lasts for generations.

Training Future Nature Guides
To ensure a continuous supply of professional nature guides and instructors in Estonia, we offer internship opportunities for 3–5 students each season and support training programs. We believe that high-quality education is vital, and as an internship provider, we take responsibility for fostering a sustainable mindset with our trainees. In addition, several Wanderlust guides also work as lecturers, teaching future nature guides at Luua Forestry School and nature tourism students at the Estonian University of Life Sciences.
EUROPARC Sustainable Tourism Certificate
The EUROPARC Federation has developed sustainable tourism principles to promote environmentally responsible tourism in protected areas. Lahemaa National Park has been awarded a quality label recognizing the region’s commitment to sustainable development. Since early 2025, Wanderlust has earned the EUROPARC Sustainable Tourism Certificate and is a part of the Europe-wide network of businesses and destinations that uphold high tourism standards and contribute to sustainability.
